Forsaken's Tangled Shore

A Reef destination where Guardians hunt the Scorn through the wreckage of the Fallen.

The Tangled Shore is a new playable environment located in the Reef, introduced as part of Destiny 2: Forsaken. Released on September 4, 2018, this region serves as one of the two primary destinations added with the expansion, alongside the Dreaming City. It functions as the setting for the initial pursuit by Guardians seeking to avenge Cayde-6 against Uldren Sov and his forces. The area is home to the Scorn, undead versions of the Fallen race that have been revived and morphed into a new, aggressive faction corrupted by the Darkness.

Lore & Background

The Tangled Shore represents the domain of Uldren Sov, who sought to find his lost sister, Queen Mara Sov, while corrupted by the Darkness. This location became the staging ground for the conflict involving the Scorn, a new race formed from undead Fallen revived and twisted into zealous enemies. The narrative focus here is the player's Guardian journey to avenge Cayde-6, who was killed by Uldren. As players traverse this environment, they encounter the Scorn, who display aggressive artificial intelligence and refuse to take cover, distinguishing them from previous Fallen factions. The region bridges the events of the Forsaken campaign leading toward the Dreaming City, where the curse cycle of three weeks begins after raid completion.

In Their Own Story

Upon entering the Tangled Shore, players face the immediate threat of the Scorn, a race that has abandoned traditional Fallen tactics for relentless aggression. The environment is defined by its role in the pursuit of Uldren Sov, the Awoken Prince responsible for Cayde-6's death. While the Dreaming City opens only after completing the main campaign and a post-campaign mission, the Shore serves as the active battleground where players can choose to eliminate the initial six Barons in any order they prefer. This freedom marks a shift in mission layout compared to previous content. The narrative tension is high as Guardians navigate this hostile territory, confronting enemies that do not retreat or hide, making every encounter a direct test of skill against a force driven by dark corruption.

Reader's Guide

The Tangled Shore offers players the ability to tackle the initial six Barons in any order they choose, providing a non-linear approach to mission progression. Unlike previous content, this area allows for strategic flexibility where players can prioritize specific targets based on their loadout or preference. The environment is distinct from the Dreaming City, which remains locked until the campaign and post-campaign missions are finished. Players must contend with Scorn enemies that possess the most aggressive artificial intelligence in the game and do not utilize cover tactics. This necessitates constant movement and awareness of enemy positions. The region also features a combat bow as a new weapon type added specifically for this expansion, allowing players to adapt their loadouts to handle the high-pressure engagements found throughout the Shore.
