When the Collapse struck, the Hive moved in quickly, drawn by the moon's chaotic energy which resonated with their dark magic. Oryx, the Taken King, utilized Io as a staging ground for his Dreadnaught. The massive ship hovered above the surface, siphoning power from the volcanoes below to fuel his conquests. This connection made Io a critical target during the First City’s desperate defense of Earth. Even after Oryx's defeat, remnants of the Hive and Taken forces lingered in the deep trenches. The Traveler did not land on Io, but its proximity to the outer system made it a key node for communication relays. Over time, the Guardians lost access to the moon as the Darkness tightened its grip on the outer colonies. It now stands as a reminder of what was lost when humanity could no longer hold the line against the Hive.
