The history of the Cabal is a chronicle of relentless expansion. Emerging from Torobatl, they quickly subjugated neighboring systems, forging an empire that spans countless star clusters. Their culture is deeply rooted in martial prowess; every citizen is trained for war, and their technology reflects this focus on durability and firepower. They are known for their massive warships, towering siege engines, and soldiers clad in heavy, reinforced plating that can withstand tremendous punishment. The Cabal's relationship with the Traveler is one of cold calculation. While the Hive seek to enslave it and the Fallen fear its light, the Cabal see it as the ultimate prize—a source of power that could secure their dominance over the entire galaxy forever. This desire led Dominus Ghaul to launch a full-scale invasion of Earth, an event known as the Red War, where he successfully captured the Traveler for a brief period before being defeated by the Guardians.

In Their Own Story

The air on the Moon tastes of ash and ozone, thick with the smoke of burning structures. A massive Cabal dreadnought hangs low in the sky, its hull scarred from orbital bombardment but still imposing. Below, heavy infantry units advance in perfect lockstep, their boots crunching over shattered glass and debris. They do not speak; they only move as one organism toward the City. A lone Guardian stands atop a ruined spire, watching the tide of red armor approach. The Cabal do not negotiate, nor do they show mercy. To them, this world is merely another resource to be stripped bare, another system to add to their endless ledger of conquests. As the first volley of plasma fire erupts from the dreadnought's cannons, shaking the ground beneath the Guardian's feet, the realization settles in: there will be no parley today, only war.

Reader's Guide

The Cabal ideology is strictly meritocratic but brutally harsh; rank is earned through combat success and maintained by proving one's worth. At the apex sits the Emperor or Empress, currently Calus, who rules from his massive dreadnought, The Eater of Worlds. Below them are high-ranking officers like Dominus Ghaul, who commands legions with terrifying efficiency. Their leadership structure is a rigid military hierarchy where failure to achieve objectives often results in immediate execution or demotion to the lowest ranks. This ensures that only the most capable and ruthless rise to power. Key figures include Calus, a cunning and sadistic ruler who values entertainment as much as conquest, and Ghaul, the former Dominus who sought to enslave humanity. The Cabal have no reverence for the Traveler or the Light. They view the Light as an anomaly to be studied or suppressed, but never embraced. Their relationship with the Traveler is purely transactional; they seek to capture it to fuel their empire's expansion. To a Cabal soldier, the Light is simply another obstacle standing between them and total galactic domination.
