Lightfall Campaign
Descend upon Neomuna to master Strand as Calus and the Witness seek the Veil.
Destiny 2: Lightfall is the seventh expansion and sixth year of extended content for Destiny 2, released on February 28, 2023. After being pushed back from its original fall 2022 date due to delays affecting The Witch Queen, this major update centers on the exiled Cabal emperor Calus, now a Disciple of the Witness. He leads an army of Shadow Legion Cabal and Tormentors against Neomuna, a secret, technologically advanced human city on Neptune. Their goal is to procure a mysterious being called the Veil to herald a second Collapse. Lore & Background
The narrative of Lightfall focuses on the conflict between the Witness, Calus, and their Shadow Legion army against the defenders of Neomuna. The story begins with an assault by Tormentors and Cabal warriors carrying Darkness power to secure the Veil. Following the campaign's conclusion, the seasonal content bridges events toward The Final Shape. Season of Defiance saw Guardians teaming up with Queen Mara Sov, Devrim Kay, and Crow to rescue citizens from Shadow Legion prisons in the Ascendant Realm. Season of the Deep took players to Titan to rescue Deputy Commander Sloane, who survived by bonding with a proto-Hive creature named Ahsa, revealing the Witness's origins. Later, Season of the Witch involved the Vanguard resurrecting Savathûn to learn how to pursue The Witness through a portal on the Traveler's surface created at Lightfall's end.
In Their Own Story
The story unfolds in Neomuna as Calus and his forces attack to procure the Veil. After the initial campaign, the narrative continues through four seasonal offerings. In Season of Defiance, the Guardian works with Queen Mara Sov and Crow against the Shadow Legion. By May 2023's Season of the Deep, the focus shifts to Saturn's moon Titan to save Sloane from an ancient proto-Hive creature named Ahsa. August 2023 brought Season of the Witch, where the Vanguard resurrects Savathûn to find a path into the portal on the Traveler. The final season, Season of the Wish (November 2023), sees a bargain struck with Riven's spirit for a 15th wish, allowing Crow to enter the Traveler. A prologue titled Into the Light arrived in April 2024, featuring Lord Shaxx and Guardians fighting Witness forces encroaching on the Last City.
Reader's Guide
The campaign introduces the new Strand subclass, based on unraveling reality through the Weave. Players can choose from three class-specific Strand subclasses: Berserkers (Titans) with twin blades and a "Bladefury" super; Broodweavers (Warlocks) unleashing missiles that explode into Threadlings via "Needlestorm"; or Threadrunners (Hunters) summoning a rope dart for their "Silkstrike" super. A key gameplay addition is an in-game loadout feature, allowing pre-determined armor and weapon sets with mods. The campaign also features a "Legendary" difficulty mode similar to The Witch Queen. Combat introduces new enemies like Tormentors, who use giant scythes to suppress abilities or instantly kill Guardians by grabbing them, and Cabal Shadow Legion using Pyramid technology for shielding.
