The Witness directly caused the Collapse and has been active since before that event, manipulating events from the shadows and orchestrating conflicts to weaken the Traveler's influence. It views the Light and its guardians as variables that disrupt the equation of existence. While Hive Gods like Savathûn and Xivu Arath are siblings of Oryx who follow their own agendas or the Sword Logic rather than worshipping him, the Witness remains a distinct entity with no allegiance to the Taken King. The entity speaks in words, as heard in cutscenes and lore—such as 'No more life. No more death.'—though it also communicates through visions and silence. Its ultimate plan involves capturing the Traveler to force the universe into a state of static perfection, ending change rather than time itself.
